In some cases depending on the stage it has reached there is a change of bone density improving and reversing the order to some extent. One main precaution is to make sure that one is getting enough calcium and vitamin D because they are essential to bone health. However there are medications that can be taken to reduce the risk of breaking bones. There are antiresorptive medications that slow down the bone loss and anabolic drugs that increase the rate of bone formation. However one must choose the drugs carefully depending on other health conditions because these drugs have side effects that could affect ones health more. To extreme situations one can go for surgery. They can either go through the kyphoplasty procedure to treat kyphosis. A catheter is inserted in the middle of a collapsed vertebra; it then expands to that the height of the vertebra can be restored. Bone cement is then injected in order to hold the shape of the vertebra. The second option is the vertebroplasty procedure in which cement is injected into the vertebra to reinforce it.

Additionally to reduce pain, one can utilize hot water bags and place it at the area of pain. Furthermore, pain relive sprays and gels such as deep heat and fastum can be useful in reducing pain. Lastly for spinal osteoporosis, there are special belts and cushions that have been invented in order to support the back and to reduce the pain.
