Osteoporosis
The bone is a living tissue, continuously breaking down and building back up. Throughout the childhoos and teenage years, the body continuously works hard to build the bones. By the age of about 30 years,
people
are at
their
peak
bone
mass. After that, the body maintains a balance between formation (building new bones) and resorption (losing bone). Osteoporosis occurs when, for various reasosn, thie balance is lost, and bone loss outpaces bone replacement. Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by low bone mass and deterioration
of bone tissue. This
leads to increase in
bone fragility and risk
of fracture (broken
bones), particularly
of the hip, spine, wrist
and shoulder.
Osteoporosis
is often known as “Silent
Thief” because bone loss occurs without immediate symptoms.
