Do you have more little black dresses than you could ever wear? Are there medications and cosmetics in your closet that expired in the last millennium? Getting organized can be empowering and can help you devise a game plan for moving forward into spring. 3. Color Your World: You don’t have to dress in bleak colors just because it’s cold and dark outside. Put on a bright sweater, break out your most dazzling jewelry (even if it’s costume jewelry), or buy a colorful hat to warm you up. Add some color to an otherwise cold winter’s day. Don’t limit yourself to your black wardrobe just because there’s a temperature dip! 4. Sleep Date: Winter is a great time to catch up on sleep and to exercise good sleep hygiene. Think calm! It’s a good idea to avoid watching the evening news prior to bedtime. There aren’t too many calming stories being told in the media. Instead, listen to soothing music, visualize peaceful settings, or read excerpts from uplifting books. You may find that spraying your pillows with a lavender scent might help you drift off into a peaceful sleep. 5. Be a Trailblazer: Engage in sports that are ideal in winter wonderlands. Take hikes; ski; ice skate; make snowmen (and women); or take brisk walks in the park. Get your body in gear and it will perform at maximum capacity. If you’re a member of a gym, take advantage of classes, such as yoga, aerobics, Zumba, and free-weight classes. Splurge on a personal trainer who can tweak your current workout regimen to accelerate your results. & About the Author Annette Racond, who is a Certified Health Coach, has had her work featured in The New York Times, Chicago Sun-Times, The Miami Herald, and Newsday, among other publications.
