Healthcare ’ s Big Disruption : Healthcare Past
of Americans turning 65 reached a record high of 10,000 people per day . Demand for doctors and nurses far exceeded supply in most of the U . S . Acceptance of digital healthcare surpassed the industry ’ s readiness to deliver it . Cybersecurity became a priority . Unprecedented levels of natural disasters , terror events , and threats from infectious diseases sowed fear and summoned first responders . The decade ended with a world-wide pandemic that showcased unpreparedness in public health support , supply chain sturdiness , and hospital readiness .
Measuring Industry Preparedness
Against this backdrop , HealthStream surveyed 900 healthcare leaders across the U . S . in April 2021 and asked them to assess the performance of the hospital industry over the past decade . We asked leaders about various initiatives over the past decade and how well they prepared the industry for the next 10 years . We found that leaders had a low opinion of how well the past had prepared them for the future .
