Creating Connections Between Campus and Community Through Partnerships and Collaboration Let’s Move Walton! Omega men move too Before their fraternity issued a clarion call of support for Omega men across the country and abroad to join President Barack Obama in taking a stand of fatherhood and mentoring, the Omega Men of the Tougaloo College family were already in action. Undergraduate and Alumni members of the Rho Epsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Fraternity, Inc., (Michael Spann, David Hoover and Jarrell Carter) in addition to Fitness Center graduate student intern, Mark Carroll (Upsilon Epsilon Chapter), led the Walton Elementary School students in a variety of fitness and exercise activities. The Omega men performed a few fraternity steps too! Jarrell Carter stated “It is the aim for every level of our fraternity to play an active role in support, partnership and promotion of the Fatherhood and Mentoring Initiative set forth by President Obama.” The Owens Health & Wellness Center has been told more times than we can count, “Tougaloo has great students and they make great volunteers. Send me some more!” Through a partnership with the Tougaloo College Division of Education, Supervision, and Instruction and the Tougaloo College Athletic Department we were able to send more students out into the community. The TC Squared Wellness Initiative provided student coaches to assist Walton Elementary School teachers with the integration of fitness and exercise into daily classroom activities. The pictures above show student athletes Joshua Sword and Joshua Thomas of Tougaloo College Baseball program with their instructor Coach Yolanda Brown Cartlidge, Walton Elementary School students, teachers and administrators. Walton Elementary Assistant Principal, Ms. Roshanda Clark stated “The Joshes were awesome! They connected with the students and really engaged them.” At Tougaloo, we prepare our students to produce the "next new idea" and to become the servant-leaders that will effect order and change in a global society. Josh and Josh are on course to do just that! Health In Your Hands "5
