A Congressman For Community and
Healthcare!
By George “Chuck” Patterson, Director of Campus Life & Community Outreach!
Congressman Bennie Thompson, in conjunction with health and well-being company Humana, Inc., Ambetter Health
from Magnolia Health, the Mississippi Health Advocacy Organization, University of Mississippi Medical Center,
Oak Hill M.B. Church and the Mississippi NAACP, hosted a tour of educational programs to help uninsured
residents enroll in the Health Insurance Marketplace prior to the March 31, 2014, deadline. This free
community event was part of “Covering Mississippi,” a statewide mobile outreach and education campaign
to provide uninsured Mississippians with information and assistance. The Tougaloo College Owens Health
and Wellness Center was the launching pad for this effort which continued through the cities of Yazoo City,
Indianola, Clarksdale, and Mound Bayou. Congressman Thompson said, “I am pleased to work with all
the entities involved in this effort. I am deeply committed to enhancing the healthcare system of our
state. Let’s work together to change the picture of health in our state!“!
