Health For Teens May 2014 | Page 2

Dear teenagers,

Health is an important component in life. Without it our bodies will not function well. As we are growing older as teens, we need to keep in mind how we can stay healthy mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, sociably, and environmentally. In order to stay healthy, we as teens need to know how to balance all of those components together, only then can we live a healthy life.

When we talk about health we have to keep in mind the six components of health, which I named before. Each component affects your health in some way that you should be aware of. Health can affect your physical health depending on whether or not you exercise and eat nutritious foods. If you neglect this and decide to be lazy and mope around all day, you could eventually become a person with an illness. Other aspects of physical health would include not being sick, taking drugs, or drinking alcohol.

Your physical health can also relate to your mental and emotional health. For example, your physical appearance can change drastically because of the way you feel. As teens we tend to eat more than we might normally want sometimes and that may be caused by our emotional state or mental state of mind. This happens because as teens we may experience a lot of stress or depression. The solution we head to is eating and stuffing ourselves with food, but we have to realize this is not a healthy solution to the problem.

Spiritually speaking your involvement with God is important too. Keeping a healthy relationship with Him is important. At our age we tend to free ourselves and try to do whatever we please, but that is not the attitude we should be having. We should always have a close and deep relationship with God or else we are not maintaining a healthy spiritual life. Some of the basic and common ways to maintain your spiritual health is just by reading the Bible, doing devotions daily, and just praying for things you are thankful for or things you might be struggling with.

In relation to your spiritual health, social health and environmental health come into play as well. In our spiritual life we have to interact with everyone around us whether they believe in God or not. We should always take the initiative to talk to others and reach out to them as much as possible; that way our social health will be stable. Also in order to maintain good environmental health we have to keep the world safe and enjoyable for anyone to live in and as God’s children we have to protect God’s creation from harm. We cannot poison it and let it become polluted.

Right now you know what the main ways to keep a stable and healthy life. As long as you keep in mind those six components, your life will be balanced and you will live a happy life for all the years to come.
