Bright, colorful, and full of flavor, South Louisiana ' s summer produce is at its peak this time of year. From juicy watermelon to fresh tomatoes and squash, locally grown fruits and vegetables provide essential nutrients while helping you stay hydrated in the summer heat.
Farmers in South Louisiana have been dedicated for generations, providing communities with fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables while sustaining one of the area ' s most important industries.

Here are five healthy, locally grown produce ideas to add to your plate this summer.
Melons
Watermelon is the perfect summer fruit: it’ s juicy, refreshing, and a naturally sweet that provides plenty of hydration – a perfect choice during Louisiana ' s hottest months!
It also contains vitamins A, an immune system supporter, and C, a water-soluble antioxidant.
Cantaloupes are also rich in vitamins A and C, making them a sweet and juicy snack option.
Tomatoes
South Louisiana gardens are also known for producing excellent tomatoes.
Tomatoes are rich in antioxidants, including lycopene, and support heart health. They are a versatile addition to salads, sandwiches, and many Louisiana recipes.
Sweet corn Sweet corn is a common summer crop across the region, and is the staple for any seafood boil or BBQ.
