PENINSULA INTERVENTIONAL PAIN MANAGEMENT CENTER ? 22910 Crenshaw Blvd., Suite #A in Torrance ? 310-530-3595 ? [email protected] RECOMMENDED SCS One of the procedures I use is a minor surgical procedure called spinal cord stimulation (SCS). SCS is an FDA-approved, reversible method of pain control for chronic pain of the trunk and/or limbs. Although it is not a cure, SCS can be successful in treating the pain associated with a host of chronic pain syndromes, including failed back surgery syndrome and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS I). Spinal cord stimulators use low-intensity electrical impulses to trigger nerve fibers selectively along the spinal cord. Researchers theorize that the stimulation of these nerve fibers diminishes or blocks the intensity of the pain message being transmitted to the brain. RIPU D. Many patients are referred to us by their primary care physicians, neurologists, orthopedics and spine surgeons. I recommend that, if someone is suffering from chronic pain fore more than three months and is not getting better, they should seek advice from a specialist like me.” WHAT TREND IS DEFINING YOUR SPECIALTY TODAY? “For the past 20 to 30 years, we have learned more about the patho-physiology of pain, and with a better understanding there has been tremendous growth in the interventional pain management specialty—with many minimally invasive therapies. We can diagnose the pain-triggering mechanism and target our treatment specifically to help the pain.” WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT YOUR STYLE AND TECHNIQUE? “I believe in multidisciplinary pain management and keeping a balance between the injection therapy and medications with adjuvant therapies. I also address each patient’s socio-psychological needs and direct them for help accordingly.” HOW DO YOU GIVE BACK TO YOUR COMMUNITY? “I am member and on the board of directors for Illumination Foundation, a non-profit organization helping to reduce homelessness in Orange County and LA County. We help provide resources and tools, social and psychological support, and health clinics for the homeless.” 76? Southbay Health 2013 | oursouthbay.com
