When they do find themselves in the grip of unpleasant emotions,
there are a variety of things they can do other than eat. Take a long walk;
take a shower or a hot bath; punch a pillow or stomp up and down to get
rid of the energy; meditate or do a relaxation exercise; call a friend or
their support person; read a spicy novel; go to an entertaining movie.
They should be sure to get adequate rest every night and not over-
commit themselves. Fatigue makes managing eating even more difficult.
If they get overtired and are looking for a pick-me-up, they can try a
glass of fruit juice or a nap or do some stretching exercises. And they
mustn’t skip meals. To avoid fatigue, they need to be sure to maintain a
regular supply of energy.
In the next instalment of this series we’ll look at some of the other
overeating trigger.
