using the SUD’s scale. We keep tapping until the SUD’s rating comes down to a level 2 or below. The tapping is a quick way to open up a communication channel with the subconscious mind. While tapping on specific issues, the subconscious will bring up past memories that have links to the present issue. The past links may make no logical sense to the conscious rational mind. But to the subconscious mind, these memories that come up are somehow related to the client’s present day issue. Thus, through this technique, the client is able to gain insight to the cause of the problem and also tap away the emotional charge of the memories that come up. EFT also releases pent up emotions which have been suppressed. Hence, the name Emotional Freedom Technique. Many times, as I start tapping on my clients, they burst into tears. I always keep a box of tissues and water nearby before starting to tap. This cathartic release of stuck negative emotions, brings a sense of relief to the client.
