Short term goals will not cause any change in the structure of brain except
increased secretion of chemical mediators. While long-term learning causes
changes in the structure of the brain by formation of new neural-pathways.
This is why people who meditate rarely, may not show any changes in the
brain while people who regularly meditate for many hours each day show a
change in the structure of the brain.
The third kind of change which occurs in brain during the process of
learning and experiencing new activities when done repeatedly is that
specific areas of brain get excited repeatedly whenever the activities
performed. This is why after few sessions of meditation or hypnosis people
go into Trance easily when they practice it repeatedly.
So remember changes in activity changes in behaviour patterns and
changes in learning will always lead to changes in the brain.
According to scientist who has been researching on Brain's response to
memory learning emotions etcetera, have concluded that these activities
lead to generation of new Nerve cells.
One of the areas in the brain where the generation of new Nerve cells that
is called as neurogenesis is easily seen is hippocampus.
According to scientists neurogenesis increases with learning,
physical activities, fresh food, intermittent fasting and calorie
restriction.
If we look to Yogic and Vedic lifestyle it was full of such activities. In
Yogic and Vedic lifestyle it was always advised to eat food within forty
to sixty minutes of cooking. Also in Yogic and Vedic lifestyle it was
advised to eat only two third of your capacity or hunger (Calorie
restriction).
Yogic and Vedic Lifestyle always supported and promoted new
learning and physical activity in form of yogic asana.
According to modern scientist the factors which decrease neurogenesis are
depression stress tension stale food alcohol, overeating age and sleep
