ay Area Legal Services (BALS) has provided
a Legal Information Center (LIC) from
within the downtown Tampa courthouses
since October 2000. Since 2012, the
program has focused exclusively on family
law assistance for pro se participants. Although BALS
does not provide legal advice at the LIC, volunteer
attorneys assist people in determining the appropriate
forms and fees and address legal processes in order to
make informed decisions applicable to divorce and
equitable distribution, paternity, timesharing, parental
responsibility, custody, child support, alimony, adoption,
name change cases, and domestic violence civil
injunctions. The LIC has provided help to 113,021
visitors as of December 31, 2018!
