takinginventory: reconnectingwithyourself
Before I begin this President’ s Message, I want to extend a warm welcome to the newest members of our profession who received the good news in September that they passed the Florida Bar Exam. Most of us can still remember the nervous anticipation of waiting for those results, followed by the incredible relief and excitement of finally seeing the word“ Pass.”
To our newest colleagues, congratulations and welcome to the profession. We are glad to have you.
And to our HCBA members, if you know a newly admitted lawyer, after you congratulate them, be sure to share one more piece of good news: their first year of HCBA membership is free. It’ s a wonderful opportunity to help them begin building the relationships and professional community
that will support them throughout their careers. More information is available on our website. Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming... Every December, something unusual happens in the legal profession.
Court calendars begin to thin. Holiday gatherings replace some of our regular meetings. Colleagues who have spent months moving from one deadline to the next finally have an opportunity to slow down, if only for a little while. Amid the year-end filings, holiday celebrations, and preparations for the coming year, we are given something that can feel surprisingly rare. A moment to reflect. As lawyers, we’ re remarkably good at taking inventory.
We know what’ s on the calendar tomorrow. Which motions are due. Which clients need calls returned. Which deadlines are approaching before the end of the year. We pride ourselves on staying organized, anticipating problems, and helping others navigate difficult situations.
