Springtime is often seen as a time of renewal, fresh starts, sweeping out the cobwebs. It also marks the beginning of the end of our Bar Year. Looking back over the past year, it seems like there is more and more instability in the world, leading to more personal uncertainty for individuals. In thinking about what to write, I kept coming back to a theme I have repeated during my wonderful three years as your Editor. Each and every one of us has the immediate ability to make a real impact in our community, however we want to define that community.
Over the last year, I have had the opportunity to travel all around Hillsborough County, meeting with a variety of local organizations that are making big impacts with vulnerable populations in the Tampa Bay Area, from Madi’ s Movement’ s work with young adults aging out of foster care, to Speak Up’ s work with removing the stigma around mental health, to so many Rotary Clubs providing scholarships to needy students.
What is so interesting about many of these organizations is that they started when one person saw a need in their
