While honoring our longstanding traditions, we were intentional about evolving. We focused on creating programming that members wanted to attend, that offered value, and that created a sense of belonging. Our annual golf Tournament was a standout success thanks to generous sponsorships and strong participation from our legal and business communities, which led to our ability to create new, quality events for our members.
We sought ways to bring members together and make space for fresh ideas and broader engagement. I am especially proud of the new initiatives our committees launched this year, including Counsel Connection, a small-group speed mentoring event at the Tampa Club designed to connect young lawyers with seasoned inhouse and private practice lawyers. This event was not just well-attended— it was impactful and offered mentorship opportunities that we hope will last far beyond this bar year.
Our Pickleball Social was another exciting first which brought a fun and fresh energy to our social calendar,
while also raising funds for the Children’ s Dream Fund. The event drew a fantastic turnout of both new and familiar faces— some who had never attended a YLD event and some who had never played pickleball!
Throughout the year, we continued to uphold the values that define the HCBA YLD. Our focus remained on creating a welcoming space for all young lawyers, whether newly sworn in or several years into practice. We hosted informative luncheons, offered meaningful pro bono opportunities to our members, and fostered social connections. I am incredibly proud of what we accomplished this year— not because we checked every box, but because we led with purpose, adapted when necessary, and stayed connected when it mattered most through an especially challenging year.
To my fellow board members: thank you for your tireless dedication to leading this organization. Thank you to each of our committee chairs, members, and volunteers who gave their time, ideas, and energy to help us not only survive this year, but to grow through it. To the incoming leadership: I am excited to see where you take it next! n
