On November 15 , the BLI Class went to MacDill Air Force Base to learn about the various legal workings of an active military base . The Class was also briefed by Senior Military Officials who outlined the careful ( but classified ) composition of military operations and the state of international foreign policy , allocation of resources , and most fundamentally , the legal authority to take certain actions . Finally , the Class heard from members of the Air Force ’ s Flight Medical Group and got to explore a medic helicopter .
On December 5 , the BLI Class toured the Port of Tampa Bay , led by Charles Klug , the Port ’ s principal counsel . The Class learned about the many industries affected by ( and affecting ) the Port , including cruise ship operations , fishing , dry-dock facilities , shipping container operations , fertilizers , and more . The Class also heard about the extensive economic and employment impact that the Port has on the people of Tampa , including the influx of billions of dollars and creation of thousands of jobs . Finally , the Class learned about potential improvements to the Port of Tampa Bay that will benefit both Tampa and the surrounding areas .
Throughout the Fall , the BLI Class received valuable insight about the interconnectedness of Tampa and its many industries . We look forward to learning more of these lessons through our upcoming modules ! n
