as a colleague amongst our legal peers . Out of these experiences , young lawyers can be bombarded with new challenges to develop our skills , abilities , network , reputation , and understanding of the legal industry .
A young lawyer ’ s legal career can be an unexpected journey , filled with trials and tribulations , but also growth and fulfillment . The YLD is here to help guide you through your first chapter and remind you that you ’ re not alone in this adventure .
As a prominent arm of the HCBA , our YLD helps to bridge the gaps between the study of law , the practice of law , and the profession of law . In doing so , the YLD offers programming aimed at legal education , service , networking , and building up a young lawyer ’ s career .
The YLD kicks off every summer with our annual state court trial seminar , which welcomes law students , summer associates , legal interns , and newly-sworn attorneys to learn the ins-and-outs of courtroom litigation . Recently , the YLD hosted its annual Pro Bono Luncheon and offered young lawyers the opportunity to develop a working relationship with legal aid organizations that lend a voice to the voiceless in our community and give back through pro bono service ( see page 42 ).
In building an effective network and managing a work / life balance , young lawyers can count on the HCBA YLD to host helpful events such as our Back-to-School Happy Hour at Cigar City Brewing and even a watch party with the St . Petersburg Rowdies soccer team . This October , we also organized our annual YLD Golf Tournament , which sported teams of four in a golf scramble at the Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club . The YLD offers many opportunities to grow into effective leaders through committee involvement . Our newly-appointed committee chairs are already hard at work planning additional events for our members . It is also never too late to join and become part of our team !
