“ The HCBA is to be commended for its creativity in making professionalism programs interesting and informative ,” said Knopik .
Recalling an exchange that occurred years ago at the event , Knopik said an attendee asked then-Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Charles Canady , who was the keynote speaker , about whether the court would consider adding a civility clause to the Oath of Admission to The Florida Bar .
Canady responded that he would explore the idea with the court and supported the idea .
Knopik said the exchange likely helped spur the court to add the civility provision to Florida ’ s Oath of Admission , which it did in 2011 .
“ No doubt we ’ re blessed to have a number of active legal organizations that work closely together to stress the importance of professionalism ,” Knopik said . “ It ’ s one of the reasons the legal profession in Hillsborough
County is uniformly held in high regard statewide .”
Meantime , the annual profes sion - alism event marked the unofficial end of the 2022-23 Bar year .
And under the outstanding leadership of HCBA President Jacqueline Simms-Petredis , it has been a stellar year for sure .
From the annual Bench Bar
Conference , membership luncheons , the 5K Pro Bono River Run & Judicial Food Festival , and the many judicial luncheons , there was something for everyone .
And that doesn ’ t include all the other notable CLE programs and community service events . Plus , all the successful events put on by the HCBA ’ s superb Young Lawyer Division , which was ably led by YLD President Lyndsey Siara .
Looking ahead , I ’ m confident incoming President Alex Caballero will continue the excellent work that has made the HCBA the wonderful organization it is today .
Here ’ s hoping everyone has a great summer . n
