On May 12 , the Bar Foundation is also hosting its annual Law & Liberty Dinner at the downtown Hilton to help raise funds for several legal-related charitable organizations in Tampa Bay .
As usual , the annual dinner is shaping up to be a fun and entertaining event . The featured speaker this year is Super Bowl champion quarterback and broadcaster Joe Theismann .
Finally , on May 28 , the HCBA ’ s Diversity , Equity & Inclusion Committee is collaborating with other Bar groups to host its annual Diversity Fair .
This special hybrid CLE event will be held in person at the Ferguson Law Center and will be broadcast online .
There ’ s no question we all have much to celebrate this spring — not least of which is the return to in-person HCBA events and the opportunity to reconnect with friends and colleagues .
But I think we all recognize this spring also has been unimaginably difficult for the people of Ukraine and all those around the world who cherish freedom and the rule of law .
The constant violent and horrific images coming out of Ukraine because of the war with Russia cannot be ignored .
At the same time , we all have been tremendously inspired by the heroic leadership and actions of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky as he stands toe to toe with Russian leader Vladimir Putin .
And we have been moved by the determined spirit and acts of courage of countless ordinary Ukrainian citizens in the face of overwhelming odds in the fight for their country ’ s future .
That said , I continue to wish all our HCBA members well and sincerely hope you are able to make the most of the many opportunities afforded you this spring season .
