Just like every July 1st, a new Bar year has commenced for the Hillsborough County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division. However, this Bar year will be undoubtedly different from the many coming before it. This will be a year of rebound and recovery. My YLD involvement over the past 10 years has been the highlight of my legal career. As your YLD president, I am excited to continue the important work of the YLD through community events and volunteer opportunities — with perhaps a virtual spin as needed to protect and best serve our members. If you are looking to get (or stay) involved as a young lawyer, I encourage you to visit the HCBA’s website and social media platforms to learn about the many opportunities available. The uncertain times with which we all currently face require us to pivot and rethink some of our past community efforts. Generally, the YLD offers programs like the John Germany “Read to Dream” Young Readers Initiative, Family Forms Clinic, Holidays in January, Steak and Sports Day, Wills for Heroes, Law Week, and the Mock Trial Competition. We hope to continue these programs in order to give back to those in need, which often require nothing more than showing up and lending a hand!
