kids corner
to bullying
Arndell students (above and left) get creative as part of the Who Do You Stand Up
For anti-bullying activity where groups created communication posters reminding
everyone to stand up against bullying.
with changes in behaviour such
as withdrawal, mood swings and
anything out of the ordinary.
On a positive note, Arndell College
is seeing changes in behaviours
within the school community with
regular surveys showing less children
are being bullied.
“The culture has changed so much
in such a short time. There is much
more collaboration,” Miss Kenny says.
“As teachers, we can see that the
students genuinely care for each
other and the trust that is being built
is opening up communication with
issues being dealt with in a positive
way.”

PARENT TIPS: How to help your
child avoid cyber-bullying
1. Teach your child online
etiquette such as not getting into
arguments online
2. Know who all your child’s
online friends really are. Are they
being ‘Followed’ by older teens or
strangers? Big alarm bells if they
are!
3. Teach your child to recognise
when it’s time to leave a group or
conversation
4. Keep communication lines open
so your child feels comfortable
telling you if an experience is
upsetting them online.
