Super ! Annual swap meet is a must visit
by Greg Martin
Phil Bowen and John Godsell , two Richmond Rotary luminaries , were telling me about the club ’ s “ bigger than Quo Vadis ” annual Sydney Super Swap at Hawkesbury Showground on February 18 .
My mind switched back to 1967 when Blues singersongwriter , Arlo Guthrie , released his hit song , Alice ’ s Restaurant .
“ You can get anything you want at Alice ’ s restaurant You can get anything you want at Alice ’ s restaurant Walk right in , it ’ s around the back Just a half a mile from the railroad track You can get anything you want at Alice ’ s restaurant ”.
Hawkesbury Showground is just a stone ’ s throw from the railway track and during their spiel to me about the Sydney Super Swap , John and Phil chorused that visitors to the Super Swap could find a treasure trove of objects to take their interest .
“ Yep , anything you want ,” laughed Phil .
The annual Sydney Super Swap has always attracted folk of all ages from near and far , because , well , you can get anything you want !
Especially for car lovers – and
aren ’ t we all !
There ’ ll be displays of a variety of vehicles including Veteran ( manufactured before 1919 ), Vintage ( between 1919-1930 ) and Historic ( at least 30 years old and built after 1930 . Cars ? You want cars ? Then there ’ s sports and classic cars , hot rods and custom street machines and miniature cars and not to mention – OK , I will - a huge array of motorbikes .
Many owners of the vehicles will participate in the Show and Shine competition , vying for spectacular trophies on offer .
As sure as eggs is eggs , a huge crowds will peruse each and every one of the machines .
And if you are seeking car parts , including engines , or collectables , a swag of vendors will be displaying their wares for your perusal .
Rotarians will be manning the canteen throughout the day – where , of course , you can get any tucker or drink you want .
There ’ s free parking available and visitors just have to cough up a $ 5 entry fee – peanuts for what enjoyment they ’ ll get throughout the day .
While you ’ re there at the Sydney Super Swap , I ’ m sure you wouldn ’ t want to swap places with anyone !
One of the superbly-restored vehicles which will be on display at the swap meet .
The miniature cars display cabinet is always a hit with swap meet visitors .
Age shall not weary them , nor the years condemn . Another oldie but a goldie !
