Draft Environmental Impact Statement

for Western Sydney International Airport

The new Western Sydney International ( Nancy-Bird Walton ) Airport ( WSI ) is set to open for domestic and international travellers , and freight by late 2026 .

The draft Environmental Impact Statement ( EIS ) for the preliminary flight paths for WSI is now on public exhibition . The draft EIS examines the impact of the proposed flight paths on the environment and the community , the public is invited to make submissions on the draft EIS by visiting www . wsiflightpaths . gov . au / makea-submission . It will be open for feedback until 31 January 2024 .

It includes assessments of the noise , social and environmental impacts of the WSI preliminary flight paths and the Government ’ s proposed actions to address areas of concern .

This includes :

• Proposed policy for noise treatments to existing properties most impacted by noise

• Considerations for any potential acquisition of property

It looks at how the preliminary flight paths will affect :

• First Nations and historic heritage

• the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area

• aircraft noise in the region

• bio diversity

• health

• greenhouse gasses

• other environmental factors and aircraft hazards

It also outlines changes to other aerodromes flight paths including Sydney and Bankstown airports which are needed to safely integrate the WSI control area and flight paths .

The feedback is critical . The government ensured communities are well placed to understand the preliminary flight paths and modelled aircraft noise with the release of the noise tool in June , and information and feedback sessions following that .

Minister for Infrastructure , Transport , Regional Development and

Local Government , Catherine King said

“ Communities are well placed to understand how they may be affected , and engage and provide feedback on the draft EIS now .

My department will hold more community information and feedback sessions across Sydney and the Blue Mountains over the coming months .

I encourage people to have their say and engage with the community sessions , as well as the draft EIS , Noise Tool and supporting information .”
