The Australian and NSW Governments have committed $ 500 million for the new Richmond Bridge and traffic improvements project , which includes a new bridge over the Hawkesbury River between Richmond and North Richmond . The project is divided into two stages to deliver early safety benefits to the community . Stage 1 includes upgrades to The Driftway between Londonderry and Blacktown Roads . The remainder of the project will be delivered in Stage 2 . What work is being done ? Transport for NSW started early work on the project in April this year and have recently completed road corridor and tree surveys . The early work includes building and relocating additional water mains at various locations along The Driftway between Blacktown Road and Londonderry Road . This water main work was due to be complete in October 2023 . However , there is a need to resolve some technical challenges with the design of this work and rescheduled this program . Early work will continue and is expected to be complete by late January 2024 . Activities continuing on site include : - Environmental and geotechnical investigations , including drilling boreholes
- Underground utility investigation and if required , potholing
- Building and relocating additional watermains at various locations along The Driftway
- Trenching , installing , backfilling , compacting , reconnecting , and

commissioning all new watermains - Clearing trees and vegetation - Restoring and cleaning up work areas when finished . When and where will the work be taking place ?
Work will be along The Driftway between Blacktown Road and Londonderry Road . Daytime work is between 7am and 6pm on weekdays and between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays .
If any night work is needed , you will be notified you seven days before this work starts . Night work hours would be between 8pm and 7am from Sunday to Thursday . No work will be carried out during public holidays
How will the work affect you ? The work may be noisy at times . However , noise control measures will be implemented to minimise the impact . This includes staging the work along different parts of the work zone to minimise disruption in

the same area . If work is required on your property , a transport representative will contact you in advance to discuss work involved including property access . Typically , they will not need to enter your house and you do not need to be at home when the work happens . Acoustic treatments Transport are continuing to work with some property owners on noise mitigation for their properties . Noise mitigation work is required when predicted traffic modelling suggests future noise at the property will exceed acceptable levels . |
Details about noise modelling for Stage 1 is included in the project ’ s Review of Environmental Factors ( REF ). Traffic changes While minimising disruption to traffic is the goal , temporary traffic changes will be required at times to ensure the work zone is safe and reduced speed limits may be in place . Please keep to speed limits and follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs .
