EXHIBITION : STARRY NIGHT : THE WORLD OF JOHN TEBBUTT ON DISPLAY NOW Renowned 19th century astronomer and Hawkesbury resident , John Tebbutt , is the focus of this new two-part exhibition . From home you can explore the online exhibition , featuring interviews about Tebbutt ’ s astronomical work and instruments , a virtual tour of his Windsor observatories , and detailed information about his life and achievements . Visit the museum to see Tebbutt ’ s original objects on display , including the telescope he used to discover the Great Comet of 1861 .
NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK TALK : FRED WATSON TEBBUTT ’ S TELESCOPE – ITS HERITAGE AND LEGACY SATURDAY 12 AUGUST , 2 – 3PM Join Prof . Fred Watson AM , the Australian Government ’ s Astronomer-at-Large , for insights into John Tebbutt ’ s largest telescope and his connection with it . Tebbutt ’ s telescope , which is still in place at his observatory today was made by Dublin optical company Grubb , founded in 1832 . Fred Watson began his career working with Grubb , and in this fully illustrated talk , he will present an insider ’ s view of the company , as well as the exciting story of today ’ s giant telescopes .
