My pen was surging along faster than an interest rate rise when Dave Zammit told me I could access all the information he was providing by just letting my fingers do the walking .
Just walk into my home office , turn on the computer and access the Hawkesbury Police Citizens Youth Club ( PCYC ) website !
I had been toiling away , jotting down the multitude of services provided by the club when Dave - he was down the front of the queue when the smarts were being handed out – gave me the good oil about the website . I could have sworn that my thumb and index finger formed a smile when I put down the pen !
Not that fingers and pen were having a bludge for too long as I gave Dave the third degree about himself and the club , for which he has been the popular and highly respected manager for the past two years .
Arlo Guthrie could get anything you want in his iconic hit song , Alice ’ s Restaurant , and at Hawkesbury PCYC so too can Hawkesbury residents of all ages who are searching for fun , fitness and friendships .
Dave proceeded to give me a guided tour of the club .
When you enter , you pass through the reception which also boasts a café area . After a cup of barista coffee , Dave then had me working up a
sweat as he proudly showed off the venue ’ s six multi-purpose basketball / netball / futsal / badminton / rollerderby / volleyball courts , the upstairs gymnasium and amenities section .
“ What a fabulous set up you have here ,” I exclaimed .
“ You ain ’ t seen nothing yet ,” laughed Dave , doing a great impersonation of the Bachman-Turner Overdrive lyrics .
“ We have a $ 15 million state government grant to give the club a huge facelift .”
Facelift ? Joan Collins should be so lucky !
“ We will build two new show courts with tiered seating to complement the current six multi-purpose courts , and a new foyer will be built at the front of the current foyer , which will be converted into a café and relaxation area ,” Dave said .
“ Courts five and six will be converted into a giant gymnasium and we will also install multi-purpose meeting and activity rooms .”
The additional facilities are sorely needed , as it has truly become a focal point within our community .
“ We have just on 2500 members - half of whom are aged four to 18 years and the other half are adults – all of whom have a plethora of activities to exercise mind and body ,” Dave said .
“ We ’ re open seven days a week offering something for all ages , and with the increasing population growth
