Angels sometimes wear orange
Richmond Lions Club in conjunction with Fortem Australia held a BBQ at the NSW Hawkesbury SES Unit to acknowledge the tremendous work that the SES performed during the recent Hawkesbury floods . Senior clinician Kirrily Gould of Fortem Australia said , “ Hosting a BBQ is just a small way of thanking the SES volunteers for the tireless work they give during times of emergencies such as the recent floods experienced in the Hawkesbury ”.
Fortem Australia provides support programs such as counselling and wellbeing activities to first responders and their families .
Lions Club of Richmond President Scott Hinks added , “ We were delighted when Kirrily approached our club to help with the BBQ ”.
“ When community groups work together anything is possible and to be able to thank SES Volunteers personally , well , that just gives you a little extra spring in your step ”.

New Australian Fire Danger Rating System now in effect
Are you interested in researching your family history and want to learn more ? Find out how to access Ancestry and Find My Past family history databases , to discover more about your family history at a free session presented by Hawkesbury Library Service on Tuesday 13 September .
In recent years , it has become easier to research family history due to the increasing amount of material accessible online . Ancestry and Find My Past are two popular databases for family history researchers , which are normally accessed by a paid subscription .
The good news is that Hawkesbury Library provides free and instant access to the databases when you visit either Windsor or Richmond libraries .
The NSW Rural Fire Service ( NSW RFS ) has announced a simplified Australian Fire Danger Rating System that took effect from 1 September .
The new rating system has been developed using the latest science to be more accurate and relevant to where you live . It will be used across the country , so whether you ’ re at home or travelling , you will see the same system being used .
The new Fire Danger Rating System has four levels – Moderate , High , Extreme and Catastrophic . When there is minimal risk , such as when it ’ s raining , ‘ No Rating ’ will be used . There ’ ll be actions for each level , so you ’ ll know what to do to protect your life , family and property .
You can check the daily fire danger rating on the NSW RFS website www . rfs . nsw . gov . au and on the Fires Near Me NSW smartphone app . You can also see it on roadside signs .
