This month we hear about Ken Lyons , who has been associated with the Hawkesbury community since his family moved here when he was a 10-year-old in 1939 .
Ken is synonymous with Windsor Rotary , having served a half-century with the club , as well as being a stalwart in local news publishing , having begun as a compositor with Hawkesbury Gazette newspaper as a 16-year-old apprentice in 1945 , retiring in 1986 . What a milestone Windsor Leagues Club is celebrating – 110 years of Windsor Wolves rugby league . Our feature pays homage to its history and development as well as the ‘ mums and dads ’ and businesses which have proudly supported this club for generations , see P21-29 .
Windsor Leagues ’ origins date back to 1891 and throughout club reports we see time and again the words “ great social atmosphere ”, “ great family club ” and “ success ”. The Wolves ’ varying grades have won countless premierships and are a formidably strong club in our community .
We talk with General Manager Larry Collins on P29 who credits the club ’ s “ old school , down-to-earth-attitude ” and family sense of pride among its greatest assets in consistently developing juniors in local sport .
