Q & A WITH CANDIDATES : 2022 AUSTRALIAN FEDERAL ELECTION

James Jackson - Liberal Democrats

Hawkesbury needs a flood-free river crossing . Will your party support an ‘ east-west ’ flood-free crossing / evacuation route ( similar to the elevated Hawkesbury Valley Way flood evac route ) so major towns ‘ west ’ like North Richmond / Grose Wold / Yarramundi , as well as Wilberforce / Pitt Town are not repeatedly cut-off ?
Probably , as ( full transparency ) I am directly impacted being north of the Hawkesbury River , but I would first take a hard look at the financial and environmental pros and cons of the project . The LNP these past two years have doubled our nation ’ s debt with no big new infrastructure to show for it ( imagine how many hospitals , dams , highways , frigates or airports we could have got for that money !) so paying that debt down is also a very large issue . The LNP ’ s last budget was one the ALP would have been proud of ...!
Anyway , we have had circa three decades of no floods and then we ’ ve have been cut-off three years in a row with escape routes north along Bells Line and Putty Roads sometimes also compromised – so another evacuation route is definitely a potential long term asset for the Hawkesbury .
Macquarie is the most marginal seat in the State . What can your party deliver for the electorate that the other party can ’ t deliver ?
A Royal Commission into government performance and handling of the COVID pandemic . www . ldp . org . au / covid _ policy A free speech constitutional amendment . “ Parliament shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion , or prohibiting the free exercise
thereof ; or abridging the freedom of speech , or of the press ; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble , and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances .” www . ldp . org . au / free _ speech Reduce politicians pay by 10 %. Wasteful decisions by irresponsible politicians have created our debt problem , and politicians should share the pain in helping to pay down that debt . www . ldp . org . au / debt _ and _ deficit NBN and telecommunications are still unreliable in the Hawkesbury with old , unstable infrastructure . Whole sections of towns still continue to “ go down ” regularly for weeks , particularly during inclement weather in greater Kurrajong , Bilpin and north up through the Putty Road . Can this really be fixed or is it a pipe dream that no amount of investment can rectify ?
I suffered this with the ADSL “ devil I knew ” BUT ( touch wood ) have found NBN Fixed Wireless reliable – I probably suffered a year longer than I needed to but I did not want to be an early adopter given all the reliability unknowns . Today , I live surrounded by the most beautiful bushland and can ( now ) stream video / movies as if I was in a city !
Did the tax payers of Macquarie and Australia pay too much for NBN , all things considered – with a decade of hindsight I would say ‘ yes ’.
Will you work with the government of the day or just oppose everything for the political sake of it ?
Myself and the LDP would work with the government of the day . The LDP is a party of principle . There is no morality without reciprocity and the people of
Named in honour of Major- General Lachlan Macquarie , 1761 – 1824 . Macquarie was Governor of the Colony of New South Wales ( 1810 – 21 ).
The area covered by the electoral division when it was first established in 1901 was also known as the Macquarie district .
The boundary shown was first used in the 2016 Federal Election and is current .

Macquarie should expect and demand progress for Macquarie – that said the LDP would not ever back increases in taxes and decreases in individual liberty . ‘ Mandates ’ are great for those on Grinder but absolutely diabolical for society .
How will your party address funding for resources , equipment , mitigation and recruitment for emergency service agencies , given the electorate ’ s high bushfire and flood prone status ?
I am personally happy with the quality of my RFS PPE and , my station , RFS
Tennyson has experienced volunteers , a new shed and reliable CAT1 and CAT7 trucks – that said I am not privy to the macro level of costs of fires and costs to fight fires . Until I have greater insight into funding options and outcomes I would likely suggest keep the status quo .
What ’ s happening with the sustained backlog of veteran ’ s affairs compensation / pension claims ?
I do not know but given the Richmond RAAF base is in the division of Macquarie I am now curious to understand more .
