‘ Never have I ever ’ gets a whole lot wiser
Repeat after me : Never Have I Ever … used drinking as a way to cope … been worried about a mate ’ s mental health … started drinking to overcome anxiety . Your fingers still up or down ?
The premise for this basic party game has become the ingenious focus of a new youth mental health campaign across pubs and hotels in Macquarie to raise awareness and support young people ’ s healthy coping strategies .
The Independent attended the campaign launch at Tate ’ s Hotel Windsor , where supporters DrinkWise , ReachOut and the Australian Hotels Association were keen to see it rolling out and become adopted right across the state .
Devised in Macquarie MP Susan Templeman ’ s living room with members of the Macquarie Youth Advisory Council , the campaign poses difficult questions to prompt young people to think about their mental health and remind them alcohol is not the answer to coping with challenges .
‘ Never Have I Ever ’ poses difficult questions to get young people to talk and open-up , said DrinkWise CEO Simon Strahan .
ReachOut research found young people feel twice as negative about the future since COVID began , with 8 per cent likely to turn to alcohol or drugs to cope .
“ This is an idea from young people , for young people , to encourage them to start a conversation with their mates that might lead to reaching out for help . What we all want them to know is that struggling with your mental health is not something to be ashamed of , but something that everyone can experience and should be spoken about ,” Ms Templeman said .
Macquarie Electorate Youth Advisory Group member Caitlin Daley said being a young adult in the past few years has been hard .
“ The youth in the Hawkesbury area have had to cope with bushfires , flooding and COVID . We ’ ve missed a lot of birthdays , formals , seeing our loved ones and lots more . The pubs in the Hawkesbury area are a central spot for the locals , so to have a campaign that can remind us that we always have support is amazing ,” she said .
‘ Never Have I Ever ’ themed posters , coasters , bathroom stalls and bar mats are being displayed in 28 pubs , clubs and bars throughout the Macquarie electorate .

Everybody craves the carvery
One of the cornerstones of Windsor Riverview Shopping Centre has been the carvery . Since opening , many cravings have been satisfied with hot roast rolls covered in tasty gravy , succulent schnitzels , mouth-watering burgers and full roast dinners .
In fact , the greatest problem is choosing what to have !
To many people ’ s dismay , the carvery was a victim of COVID . It was closed for many months , but has now re-opened with a fresh new face behind the counter . Now known as Riverview Carvery & Burger Co ., new owner Steve Wilkins , has been part of the Hawkesbury for many years and lots of locals know him through Hawkesbury Radio or the Great American Hot Dog Company .
Steve operated Lakeside Kiosk at Nurragingy Reserve , Doonside for seven years , so he has been there , done that !
One of the many things Steve is proud of , is the coffee he has chosen for Riverview Carvery & Burger Co . It comes from a boutique brewer from the heart of the Australian coffee scene , Lygon Street in Carlton .
Undercover Roasters started there , and Steve has bought this great coffee to the Hawkesbury . Now , everyone says they have great coffee , but Steve is putting his money , where his mouth is .
Coffee is a very personal thing , said Steve and he wants you to try it for yourself .
Riverview Carvery & Burger Co . Windsor Riverview Shopping Centre . Open seven days with a great breakfast and lunch menu .
The one question being asked is - where is the Great American Hot Dog ?
Exclusive to the readers of the Independent : Steve is offering ‘ buy 1 coffee , get 1 free ’ for April 2022 ONLY .
