Last year we finished 5th in the state and need dedicated runners to help us build the program. Help us reach new goals! MCXC Malayshia George and Michael Cheeks were named the 2013 Track & Field athletes of the year at the All County banquet held at Collins Hill. Other All County athletes were: GIRLS Kelsey Gray Lauren Hovis (Honorable Mention) BOYS Braden Canamare Allen Eckles Brandon Holley Tyler Woodrome (also Gwinnett Daily Post Athlete of the Week!) Matt Tippins (Honorable Mention) Track: Congratulations to the following student athletes for committing to colleges: Kelsey Gray to Georgia State University Aunica Clinton to Brenau College Allen Eckles to Augusta State University Congratulations to Sydnee Shaw as she set a new School Record in the Triple Jump. 36' broke the old record set by Argy Kosmakos earlier this season. The Hamilton Mill Golf Club hosted a signing ceremony for golfers who are pursuing golf after high school. Dylan Pence signed with The University of West Georgia. Katie Plummer signed with Armstrong Atlanta State University. Justin Grimaldi will be attempting to walk-on at North Georgia College & State University Also, Garnett Glaser received the Ga State Golf Association's Yates Scholarship as she pursues her academics at the University of Tennessee. LACROSSE: The following students were honored at the All County banquet: Kyle Beverly 1st Team Defense, Nick Kozlowski Midfielder Player of the Year, Brandon Savoie speciality Player of the Year (Face off), Alex Schneider goalie Player of the Year, and Will Peek midfielder 2nd team All County. Well done! HAWK HERALD MILL CREEK BOYS STATE TRACK MEET Tyler Woodrome won the 1600 and is STATE CHAMP!! Other great performances as Michael Cheeks finished fifth in the High Jump, Kaleb Kim finished 3rd with a PR of 153'6", and Jake Lund finished 6th with a PR of 144'3"in the discus and Charlton Bassett placed 4th in the pole vault with a PR of 12'6". Saturday in the finals Michael Cheeks won the 200 in 22.01 and then anchored the 4x400 with Allen Eckles, Tyler Woodrome and Braden Canamare to win in 3:24.22, Michael Cheeks placed third in the 400 with a 49.10, the 4x100 team of Carter Governale, Michael Cheeks, Brandon Holley and Devozea Gaines ran a 42.99 for fourth place finish. All in all a brilliant day for Mill Creek track as they won the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP with a sixteen point cushion over Hillgrove. SHOUT OUT HAWKS! CHAMPIONS AT MILL CREEK! JV baseball beat Peachtree Ridge 10-9 to make the finals but fell to North Gwinnett 10-12 to finish runner up in the Region. Great job guys! Congratulations to the varsity girls soccer team for being 2013 REGION CHAMPS!!! Congratulations to both Tennis teams for qualifying for STATE! Congratulations to Boys Track and Girls Track as both are 2013 REGION CHAMPS!! REGION CHAMPS 2013 with a great game! Varsity Baseball beat Peachtree Ridge 3-0 to clinch the Region Championship. Well done guys! Congratulations to the girls soccer for the #1 STATE Ranking!! Congratulations to Boys Lacrosse on their #1 STATE Ranking. The girls have moved up in the polls to #4 STATE ranking. Thank you to the 130 student, parent and community volunteers who helped run the Special Olympics Elementary Track and Field event on April 17. Twentyeight elementary schools attended the event with over 350 special athletes. Volunteers were responsible for being class ambassadors, starters, huggers and heat leaders. Others assisted with the awards, soft ball throw and long jump or running Olympic Town. The event was a huge success. A special thanks to Chick-Fil-A, Gwinnett Braves, Publix, North Georgia Graphics and Two Little Monkeys.
