When designing a new facility for Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind , it was critical to address the educational and therapeutic needs of all students . In collaboration with landscape architects , thoughtful consideration was given to the sensory , physical , social-emotional , and developmental features of the new outdoor play space . The environment supports learning , independence , and confidence by offering multi-sensory features through various colors , textures , sound , and movement experiences . The open courtyard serves as an experiential play area , complete with musical instruments designed to provide various sensations through touch , sound , and vibration . The new environment is a place where students can experience the joy of play with their friends , family , teachers , and therapists .
“ Thoughtful consideration was given to the sensory , physical , social-emotional and developmental features of the new outdoor play space .”
