Fire Prevention Tips
o Put out all cigarettes. Do not use matches or naked flames. Do not operate
electrical switches on or off, all these could cause an explosion. Open doors
and windows to get rid of the gas. Turn off the gas at the tap, there could be
a leak.
o Always replace the cap on the cylinder valve, when the cylinder is empty or
not in use. If you suspect a leak, brush soapy water around the joint and
watch for bubbles.
o Always check that the hose connected from the cylinder to the appliance is in
good condition and is suitable for gas.
IF THERE IS A FIRE:
o Close the door of the room where the fire is. This will help delay the spread of
the fire and smoke.
o Get everyone out.
o Call the Fire Brigade. State clearly where the fire is.
o GET OUT AND STAY OUT.
IF SOMEONE’S CLOTHES CATCH LIGHT:
o Make that person lie on the floor and roll them in blankets, rugs, or a heavy
coat. If your clothes catch fire, roll on the floor to extinguish the fire.
IF YOU ARE CAUGHT IN A FIRE:
o Smoke is as deadly as flames. Close the door and any other openings, and
block the cracks with bedding etc.
o Go to the window and try to attract attention.
o If the room becomes smokey, stay low. It is easier to breathe. Think about
making your escape.
o If the window is jammed break it. Get out feet first and lower yourself to the
full length of your arms before dropping.
