Behavior Guidance and Discipline
Adventure Connection/Epic Summer follows District 622 behavior policies as approved by the school
board. District policies can be found at www.isd622.org.
Behavior Intervention Strategies
We strive to help our youth develop the social-emotional skills required to create (and maintain
throughout their lives) successful relationships and citizenship skills. It is our goal to promote a
positive approach in the management of behavior issues. Patiently working with the students to learn,
understand, and practice these skills is always our starting point.
In cases where a higher level of intervention is required, strategies also include verbal or written
parent/guardian notification, conferences, a behavior plan and, if the inappropriate behavior persists,
temporary or indefinite removal of the child from the program. Depending on the severity and
frequency of the behavior, consequences can include warning of suspension or next day suspension.
If the behavior threatens the safety of students or staff, an immediate suspension may be warranted
and parents will be called to pick up their child. An inclusion specialist will be involved in the decisionmaking process in situations where suspension is being considered for a child with special needs. No
credits will be given for suspensions.
If a child displays harmful/inappropriate behavior on a field trip, the child’s parent or guardian will be
called immediately to pick up the child at the field trip or school site. Future field trip privileges and/or
child care services may be jeopardized depending on the severity of the incident.
Children suspended from school are also automatically suspended from Adventure Connection.
However, children suspended from Adventure Connection may still attend school at the discretion of
the principal.
You are required to keep your emergency contact information updated and to return calls in a
reasonable amount of time to site staff reporting illness or other urgent situations. Failure to do so
may jeopardize your services.
Data Privacy
Adventure Connection/Epic Summer is part of the North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale school district
which functions as a single agency. School district programs communicate and collaborate with each
other to gather information that help staff serve your child. Data privacy law prohibits the sharing of
information about children and families with other program participants or anyone outside of the school
district.
Outside of the school district, OST programs shall obtain a signed and dated written consent form before
disclosing personally identifiable information about a child or family, unless otherwise allowed by law or
District policy. Parents may review OST records about their child(ren) by submitting a written request.
Record reviews will be conducted in the presence of a staff member.
Unless you notify your site manager, in writing, Community Ed will assume permission to use any
photos of your children for the purpose of publicity, public relations, and media contacts.
See District policies at www.isd622.org or in the District School Calendar for further information on data
privacy.
