Hemp breaths in 4x the carbon dioxide (CO2) of trees during it's quick 12-14 week growing cycle. Trees take 20 years to mature vs 4 months for Industrial Hemp! Our forests are being cut down 3x faster than they can grow! As a unit of measure, an acre has no prescribed shape; any area of 43,560 square feet is an acre.
One acre of hemp produces as much cellulose fiber pulp as 4.1 acres of trees, and can be used for every kind of paper and quality. Hemp paper production reduces wastewater contamination as well. The first paper created was made from industrial hemp, and was actually stronger and lasted longer than typical papers in that day. Hemp’s low lignin content reduces the need for acids used in pulping, and its creamy color lends itself to environmentally-friendly bleaching instead of harsh chlorine compounds.
Most cigarette filters are made from cellulose acetate. Cigarette filters contain twelve thousand plastic-based fibers, and like many other forms of plastic are not biodegradable. The leftover filter is the most common form of litter; International Coastal Cleanup volunteers collect an estimated 53 million cigarette butts each year. The filters' non-biodegradability increases landfill demands, adds costs to municipalities' waste-disposal programs, and creates environmental blight in public spaces. Biodegrable Cigarette filters can be made of an organic hemp blend.
