Founded in 1898 , this conference held annual meetings in various southern cities . Its goal was to promote public education in the South as well as advancing modern agriculture methods and encouraging rural community development . It ceased operations in 1914 . While this is not the book example , this button is featured in Button Power : 125 Years of Saying It With Buttons on page 77 in the Events category . A young lass in red with an iconic 1920s bob pulls long string of pearls from what seems to be a ceramic container , the front of which carries the red triangle logo . Likely designed for a fund raising event . NM . Two known . Rare . ( I ) $ 200.00 570 . NATIONAL HEROES OF THE WORLD C . 1897 AMERICAN PEPSIN GUM GIVE-AWAY COLOR PORTRAIT BUTTONS . Each is 7 / 8 . In Buttons In Sets , these are listed as a set of 48 but that included nine jockeys . This is a set of 39 minus the jockeys . Included are celebrities , military leaders , poets , rulers , statesmen and one boxer Fitzsimmons . One ( Longfellow ) has cello cracks , seven have some degree of stain and 31 are Exc . to NM , except four are missing back papers . A difficult set to complete . ( I ) $ 200.00 571 . WESTERN AND NATIONAL HEROES TWO COMPLETE SETS C . 1930 AND 1934 BY BUTTON GUM AND YANK JUNIOR CLOTHING . First is the Button Gum set of 10 but a name error caused an 11th button to be issued . The error button is “ Davy Crocket ” and corrected it is “ Davy Crockett .” All 11 are here . Some minor paint wear or melt marks but all range VF to Exc . These have water soluble inks so do not attempt cleaning . The second set reads on reverse : Yank Junior Hero Series and names Chicago maker Reliance Mfg . Co . Set includes : Boone , Sitting Bull , Kit Carson , Cody , Custer , Dewey , Franklin , Grant , Hale , John Paul Jones , Lee , Lincoln , Perry , Revere , TR , and General George Washington . A high grade NM set of 16 lithos 13 / 16 ”. ( I ) $ 200.00 572 . PORTRAITS OF YOUNG LADIES C . 1905-1910 WITH SET OF 25 , SET OF 27 AND FIVE MISC . PLUS ONE MIRROR . Buttons In Sets ( 1984 ) lists 25 in the 1.25 ” size and 27 in the 7 / 8 ” size so that seems to be all that are known to this day . They were used as premiums with 10 different back papers known for cigarettes , plug tobacco , whiskey and even Cracker Jack . Of the 1.25 ” size only 5 have a back paper including one Cracker Jack ( w / some light penciling ) in Row 5 . Of the 7 / 8 ” size , 22 have Perfection Cigarettes papers and five have no paper . Included are five from a different set ( of unknown total ) with Bastian back papers . There is also one lady mirror , no text , 1.75 ” with tiny cello indent dots in reflected light . The 57 buttons are clean , glossy and VF to NM . ( I ) $ 200.00 573 . DOG BREEDS COMPLETE SET OF 35 BUTTONS FROM THE 1930s . Each is 13 / 16 ” litho with silver luster back but no text . Obviously the same maker as the set showing birds .
