Otherwise some age toning along edges w / moderate handling . VG . Porter served in the Mexican American War before serving as a Colonel in the Union Army at the start of the Civil War . He was promoted to Major General in 1862 , but was court-martialed and dismissed from the Army in early 1863 following the second battle of Bull Run . He felt he was wrongly court-martialed and spent much of his later life attempting to rectify his disgraced exit from the military . A medal of honor recipient , Ames was the last general officer of the Civil War from either side to die , passing away at 93 years of age in 1933 . He also served as a U . S . Senator representing Mississippi from 1870-1874 , as well as Governor of Mississippi from 1868- 1870 and again from 1874-1876 . Signature is inscribed “ Very Truly Yours .” Only light wear . Exc . Card is 2.5x4 ” on stock . Signature at top w / additional text below reading “ General C . S . A . -1861- ’ 65 .” Dated February 25 , 1892 . Beauregard served under Winfield Scott during the Mexican American War . He was appointed as the first general in the Confederate States Army in 1861 and led the Confederate forces on the battle of Fort Sumter , starting the Civil War . Only light wear . Exc . BOER WAR GENERAL HANGS FROM JAWS OF THE BRITISH LION SYMBOLIZING LORD ROBERTS 1900 VICTORY . 7 / 8 ” with back paper by W & H from 1900 . Cronje was a general of the South African Republic ’ s military forces during the Anglo-Boer wars of 1880-1881 and 1899-1902 . This button from 1900 relates to his defeat at the Battle of Paardeberg where he surrendered with 4,150 of his commandos on Feb . 27 , 1900 after being enveloped by Lord Roberts ’ forces . As he dangles from the lion ’ s jaws by the seat of his pants , his rifle becomes a useless stick . After his surrender he became a prisoner of war on St .
