This design was produced in England c . 1785 and is titled “ Apotheosis Of Franklin ”. Features Washington , in military uniform , who drives a leopard-drawn chariot past the “ Liberty Tree ” which also displays an upside down and torn “ Stamp Act ”. Washington ’ s passenger is Columbia who carries a placard reading “ American Independence 1776 .” Only light wear . Exc . Not examined outside of frame . Randolph , the grand-daughter of Thomas Jefferson , as Dolley and Ellen were known to correspond . Dolley Madison was the First Lady from 1809 until 1817 . She famously saved Gilbert Stuart ’ s iconic painting of George Washington during the British burning of Washington in 1814 as she fled the White House during the War of 1812 . La Fayette is depicted w / Greek God Hermes at his right and Poseidon extending a hand from his boat at left . In the distance is an army unit w / four figures at front two labeled “ Eoy ” and “ B Constant ”. Light scattered crazing as is typical . A few small areas of paint loss along the side of box .
