Sign advertises “ Twelve Exciting Action Figures From The Smash Hit Movie Star Wars !” and shows movie images of the first 12 characters that were made into action figures - Princess Leia Organa , See-Threepio ( C-3PO ), Artoo-Detoo ( R2-D2 ), Luke Skywalker , Han Solo , Chewbacca , Ben ( Obi-Wan ) Kenobi , Darth Vader , Stormtrooper , Jawa , Death Squad Commander and Sand People ( Tusken Raider ). Text at center lists “ Authentic Costumes , Movable Arms And Legs For Great Action Poses , Designed For Star Wars Spaceships And Action Toys ” features . Store display bin has 13x24 ” vacuform plastic inner tray w / four slotted sections w / 12 slots each designed to hold Kenner ’ s original 12 Back carded figures . Raised “ Star Wars ” logo on the front of each section . Complete w / cardboard tray insert underneath plastic tray as well as w / cardboard inserts . Rare and desirable display . Header has faint vertical crease at left , running across Han Solo and C-3PO ’ s faces as well as some lt . corner tip wear . Plastic tray insert has . 5 ” dent along left side , but not readily visible when display is fully assembled . Some tiny corner dents , but tray remains free of any of the typically seen cracks . Cardboard insert tray below plastic tray has large crease at one corner , but display remains still VF / Exc . overall . Comes w / original Kenner cardboard shipping carton w / mailing label . Box has been opened at left and shows some scattered wear from mailing and exhibits some scattered moisture staining . Fine / VF overall . Stiff illustrated cardboard envelope containing sealed kit which was available for limited time and marked “ Not To Be Sold After December 31st , 1977 .” Created by Kenner to satisfy the Christmas 1977 demand for Star Wars action figures , the envelope contained a cardboard stand , stickers , and a coupon to be redeemed via mail for the first set of four action figures ( Luke Skywalker , Princess Leia , Chewbacca and R2-D2 ) in early 1978 . Card is unpunched . This carded figure was distributed in Japan w / Takara exclusive head sculpt ( 410451-1 ) that featured a more narrow , alternate head .
