STOPPING THE SPINNING Treatment for vertigo varies. While antivert can help reduce symptoms temporarily, it does not correct the problem. One exercise to address BPPV is called Epley maneuver, named for Dr. John Epley, who developed it. It starts with a movement of the head toward the ear causing symptoms.( In many cases, however, both ears will have problems.) The patient lies to one side, gets up, and repeats this on the other side. This is a simplified view of the maneuver; to do it properly a physician or therapist should first demonstrate it. The intent is to jog the calcium deposits or crystals back into place.
“ We always test both sides, even if the doctor only notes one side of the body may be having problems,” says Lisa, who has been working with vertigo patients since 1992.“ There are different treatments depending on whether you have true vertigo as opposed to lightheadness or dizziness.
