How would it affect families, small businesses or organisations?
Small businesses have to pay for the software and applications they already use. However, prices will be raised if Net Neutrality is repealed and some small businesses just can't afford that. Large corporate businesses can, however, so they are mostly in favor of the whole ordeal because those small companies will go out of business.
What's your own opinion on the matter?
I think Americans should all really take a moment and think about what repealing Net Neutrality would do to their daily lives. Information is directly at our fingertips and the government wants to take it away. In my opinion, it is not only completely unfair, but it is immoral and unconstitutional.
What about people around you- your family, friends, teachers and idols- how do they feel about the possibility of losing Net Neutrality?
Everyone that I have discussed the matter with has been opposed to the idea. They realizehow badly their jobs and personal lives will be affected if it does, in fact, take place.”
How's the situation looking right now?
The topic has been pretty quiet recently, no one has really mentioned it since the FCC voted because they came to terms with it, but I think people should focus on it again. Net Neutrality is a cause worth fighting for whether you live in America or not. Once one country implements it, others could as well.
Is there anything you can do to stop this from happening? If so, did you (or someone you know) try?
There are organizations that have been raising awareness about the situation over the past few months. Also, people (myself and my friends included) have been contacting the FCC and publicly displaying our opinions on the matter.
Last but not least, how do you think this will end? Do you have any predictions?
I believe since the government has already expressed its indifference about the individuals in our country, they will pass this law to further deteriorate our respect for them.
With that powerfull (and- frankly- quite salty) last statement, our little interview is over. Huge thanks to Abbey for making this possible. Given her wise words, I don´t doubt for a second that you found this topic as interesting as I did. Hopefully we will all be able to help her and plenty of others raise awareness.
Now, I believe there´s nothing left to say except wish everyone still fighting for Net Neutrality good luck. Keep up the good work, folks. We´re all rooting for you!
