In lines 1-7 Sasaring Persaud uses a jovial tone. For example, in the beginning the author said, “Lemon-green buds cover the tarmac” (Persaud line 7).One can clearly see that the author’s attitude in the beginning of the story gave off a happy feeling. The reason behind starting the poem joyful was to lead the reader on into the negative ideas he felt. .Saying goodbye can sometimes be a happy moment. Also saying goodbye can have a negative meaning also. The author used joyful ideas but negative meanings. The reason behind the negativity is that the author obviously has a disagreement with saying goodbye. Some people think saying goodbye is a good thing. However the author is one of those people that doesn’t think saying goodbye is a good thing, which shows that he has an argument. Usually when someone is in an argument they are very serious and perhaps even talking in a bitter tone at times. So this is why the author will eventually change to a bitter tone throughout the story. The author stated, “not in a pub by a cold river, or a coffeehouse cozy and comforted by a dozen of ears listening for tomorrow” (Persaud Lines 4-7). In other words he is saying that happy settings don’t help. This was the author’s first interaction with saying good bye. Based off of this situation you can see that the author doesn’t care how comforted and peaceful things are, there isn’t a good time to say good bye. All of these negative feelings that the reader has is basically because the author feels that saying goodbye is irritating or aggravating. Also this could be a pet peeve, which puts even more anger into his text.
