some sort of ghostly figures who came

Edmunds readily admits how enamored he
became with many ’50s and ’60s players’
guitar of choice, the Fender Stratocaster.
“They fascinated me. I’d see one and
go, ‘What the hell’s that?’ There were
no electric guitars like it in Britain at the
time,” Edmunds recounts. “Carl had the
pink ones, which turned me off a bit. I
only recently got the Buddy Holly version,
the 1959 tobacco sunburst, and that’s a

with it sometimes, I just look at it and go,
‘Wow! Look at that! How could they get it

know exactly what he means. Indeed,
when it came to recognizing his primal
influences, Edmunds could hear them
knocking — and he gladly let them in. ■
