Introduction
The University of South Wales and its’ Students’ Union has a long history of
partnership. Both have been working together to deliver an excellent student
experience. We acknowledge that the learning environment of the University is one
that is dynamic and constantly evolving, and one in which the student voice is key.
In recognition of this, the Sabbatical Officers at the University of South Wales
Students’ Union (USWSU) have developed the University Students Want Academic
Manifesto. This document has been compiled using data from the Student Led
Teaching/Staff Awards from across all campuses of the University(see page 13). The
following categories relate to the things students like to see and would like to see
implemented as part of their University experience:
1. Innovative Teaching Methods
Class content should be delivered through varied and creative methods.
2. Enterprise & Links with Industry
Courses should offer learning opportunities related to employment where possible
as well as provide relative links to industries and opportunities.
3. Communication & Availability
Staff should use a variety of methods of contact to ensure important messages get
through to students and to increase dialogue between the two parties. Lecturers
should operate open-door set office hours and should answer student e-mails at the
earliest possible time within ten working days.
