Employment Experience Component
Employment points are awarded in the following five categories;
1. Magnitude of Responsibility Indicates scale of managerial duties in staff and budget responsibilities. Points are awarded based on the actual numbers of staff and size of budget. At the CMM II and III level there are requirements to had had, at some point in a member’ s career, responsibility for a minimum combination of the elements of both staff and budget listed below:
a) Staff Responsibility Elements – Authority to;
• Approve vacation
• Discipline
• Recommend wage changes
• Hire / fire
• Recommend changes to job description
• Conduct / sign off performance appraisals
• Delegate / supervise work
• Approve time off / overtime
b) Budget Responsibility Elements
• Actual responsibility( as per job description), or estimated $ amount of budget levels
• Preparation of spending estimates
• Monitoring
• Recommendations for remedial action
• Spending authority

2. Complexity of job functions Indicates breadth of duties and is based on reporting and working relationships and the range of job experience
3. Duration of Employment Indicates time spent in the position

4. Range of Career Experience Measures the growth in a managers’ responsibilities over the course of a career to date.
5. Contributions to Professional Organizations( Voluntary) Measures an administrators’ involvement in municipal organizations and staff associations. This category includes teaching in the field as well as preparation and publication of papers relevant to local government administration. Community contributions are also given consideration for points.
Current Experience Points are awarded for positions held during the past 5 years. The Institutes’ Policy & Accreditation Committee strives to ensure that there has been a demonstrable progression of experience in the members’ recent work experience where more than one job has been held. Therefore, more than one job will be counted for Current Experience only in cases where the candidate:
• Has moved to a larger organization; and / or
• Has been promoted to a job with a greater magnitude of responsibility; and / or
• Has had a significant addition of functions performed.
Previous Experience Jobs held( in the private or other government sectors) during the past 6 to 10 years of employment are subject to a maximum of 30 points. If the current position has been held for more than 5 years, the applicant should fill out previous experience sections indicating growth in responsibilities.( Work not need be continuous, i. e. The previous 10 years of employment experience can be counted.)
