The Ontario Municipal Management Institute
Major Program Features
Goals
The Institute’s Accreditation program has been designed to develop management capabilities of Ontario’s local government
administrators by means of a system of recognition. It provides an administrator with a working framework to assess
management skills and provide direction.
Major Components
The system awards points to members in each of two major components, EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE and ACADEMIC
ACHIEVEMENT. A member’s total point score will be determined by combining his/her point score in each component of
employment experience and academic achievement.

COMPONENT REQUIREMENTS
Eligibility
In addition to the point requirements, an individual must have direct employment by a local government, board or
commission, for a minimum of one year currently or in previous employment. Also members applying for the CMM II or III
level must meet the additional specific element requirements of staff and budget responsibilities detailed on pages 3 & 4.
Policies & Services
Update Procedures
An update form for significant change in employment is available online or from the OMMI office. Minor changes may be
identified in a letter or e-mail. Academic updates should be submitted in writing. Members will be notified as to the
recommended value of any updates submitted. An update fee is only applied when a members’ update results in meeting
all requirements to increase in their level and to be presented and confirmed by the Policy & Accreditation Committee.
Annual Renewal
Members are invoiced annually. Members who do not renew within 90 days lose their membership status, and must re-join
the program, requiring them to pay the current membership fee, rather than the renewal fee. Allowing their membership to
lapse voids their designation and legal status achieved.
Information & Counselling Services
OMMI maintains files of course outlines from educational institutions and professional associations. It has also compiled
an inventory of offerings from management firms involved in the municipal field. This information is available to members
on a request basis.
**Members are encouraged to keep a record of seminars and courses added (brochures, course outlines, etc.) for the
purpose of providing documentation for clarification, or in possible disputes/questions over point allocations.
