THE REAL PRINCE EDWARD & NORTHUMBERLAND...
Northumberland County is home to rolling hills and some of Canada's most
scenic countryside, Take a drive or opt for two wheels and immerse yourself in
photo-worthy landscapes. For the avid cycler or hiker, the Trans Canada Trail and
Waterfront Trail offer 19 different options for adventure. The trails offer winter
wonderland fun, too, for skiers, snowshoers, and snow mobile riders.
For those looking to relax, dust off the fishing rod and take advantage of Lake
Ontario's teeming waters. You'll find Bass, Muskelunge, and Walleye in Lake
Ontario and nearby Lake Rice. Ganaraska River is another great option, especially
for Salmon and Trout. And just a few minutes away from Lake Ontario is Ste. Anne's
Spa, an all-inclusive resort comprised of an 1858 stone inn and garden cottages
across 400 acres of land. From classic massages and facials to deluxe spa bundles
and group retreats, Ste. Anne's has something for everyone.
And who can resist Lake Ontario's historic Apple Route, which, for 200 years, has
been a symbol of the region's rich agricultural history that brought both prosperity
and continuity. All along the Route you’ll be delighted by beautiful views, orchards
for apple picking, corn mazes, and a host of popular dining attractions including
bakeries and cafes.
“Rolling hills... photo-worthy landscapes...
winter wonderland fun... teeming waters...
historic villages... escape from the ordinary”
Just to the east of Northumberland lies Prince Edward County, a unique island
community easily accessed by multiple bridges. The island is most well-known for its
sailing community, fishing, and giant, picturesque sand dunes. Like Northumberland,
a drive through Prince Edward's winding country roads won't disappoint. You'll
make your way through historic villages and quaint towns, through vineyards and
farms, and find along the shores of Lake Ontario and Bay of Quinte a bevy of artist
studios and antique shops.
In recent years, Prince Edward County has become a top culinary destination with
wineries, craft breweries, organic farms, and an excellent selection of cafes, bakeries,
and restaurants. And you simply can't forgo a trip to the Sandbanks Provincial Park.
As the world’s largest freshwater sand bar and dune system, Sandbanks feels like
an escape from the ordinary. Spend the day tanning along soft, white sand shores,
or kayaking through sparkling shallow waters.
Whatever your adventure, Prince Edward and Northumberland Counties are just
the destination. We fell in love with the surrounding area and Lake Ontario when
we bought Sea Breeze Cottage in the fall of 2010, and haven't looked back since.
The view of the lake and stunning sunrises still take our breath away, and we're
happy to share our slice of paradise with you.
