To be truly prepared for college and a globally competitive workplace, children need more
than access to technology and millions of facts at their fingertips—they need to be able to
think critically, communicate persuasively, understand and practice empathy, build healthy
relationships, and learn how to learn.

But how do we provide girls with the higher-order thinking and social-emotional skills they need
when the school day is only so long, families are busier than ever, and resources are scarce? The
answer starts with Girl Scouts!
Our learning and development model is based on Girl Scouts’ historic commitment to leadership,
insight drawn from best practices in youth development and education, and our own research
and girl expertise. And time and time again, we’ve proven that Girl Scouting works.

TROOP LEADERS
A Girl Scout troop leader is a cheerleader and mentor to girls. A troop leader teaches
girls to empower themselves to explore their passions, develop confidence, build
courage, and find their character through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
You’ll be supported by a combination of staff and volunteers, including members of the service
unit team, volunteer support specialists, girl experience specialists, and customer care.
“You get to see a girl’s confidence grow as they learn about themselves, each other, and the world around them.”
—Casey K., GSWPA troop leader
“I enjoy meeting all the girls and their families, most of whom I would not have met without Girl Scouts.”
—Dottie N., GSWPA troop leader
“You’re able to mentor young girls and see their reactions when they excel at something new.”
—Jennifer S., GSWPA troop leader
As a Girl Scout volunteer, you’ll ...
→ introduce girls to new experiences that
show them they’re capable of more than
they ever imagined → be a positive role model when representing
Girl Scouts in the community or with other
members
→ be their cheerleader, guide, and mentor,
helping them develop skills and confidence
that will last a lifetime → find opportunities for girls to explore, take on
challenges, and be change-makers by using
provided resources and the Volunteer Toolkit
→ offer consistency by scheduling and holding
regular Girl Scout troop meetings (Pick the
schedule and frequency that works for you
and your girls!) that are well-organized, fun,
interactive, and girl-led → create a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere
by encouraging and supporting all troop
members
