“When I first heard that I was going to speak to Lower
Secondary, I saw it as an opportunity to make positive
changes in the student ministry department.” said Mr.
Lozano. “I thought this would be a great opportunity to
build the idea that we are still one school and that we’re
one family.”
Despite leading the Secondary Spiritual Empahsis Week
(SEW) for his first time, Mr. Lozano approached the Lower
Secondary students with positivity. He strongly emphasized
that the Lower Secondary students should receive the
“exact same quality experience as the Upper Secondary.”
“I didn’t want them to feel like second class citizens,”
he said. “The top priority was that they [Lower Secondary students] knew that they are just as valued as the Upper Secondary
students, even though they’re younger and smaller in number.” To ensure this, Mr. Lozano and the Frontline team cared for the Lower Seconda ry
students by communicating and putting in great amounts of effort.
One of the efforts was changing “gears” for Lower Secondary. Mr. Lozano
touched upon “crafting the theme” in order to make the sermons more suitable for the
age group. “I would change a story here, along with my vocabulary and my rate of
speech,” commented Mr. Lozano.
Additionally, a preview of the Upper Secondary Fashion Show was shown to
motivate the students. “I put together a video to show them the Upper Secondary
students’ fashion show just to give them an idea of what it was going to look like,” said
Mr. Lozano. “Some students weren’t that excited to do the fashion show, but when
they saw the video and how hard the Upper Secondary kids worked to make it a fun
event, it made them feel more confident to do it for themselves.”
Specifically for the SEW theme “Lift,” the idea was difficult to incorporate into the
Lower Secondary. Although the Lower Secondary students were lifted by the Upper
Secondary students in the same division, it was difficult for them to lift elementary
students in a different division. Mr. Lozano explained that “the idea of going down to
lower grade students doesn’t work exactly the same way.”
Thus, the focus of SEW was placed on the spiritual aspects of “Lift.” “Lift was
more about trusting in God and Him lifting you up, mentors that are willing to lift,
and lifting each other up,” mentioned Mr. Lozano. Through Mr. Lozano and Frontline’s
efforts, the Secondary SEW ended in success as the students adopted the concept of
“lift.”
